Asians go for Accuracy
The 1st FAI Asian Paragliding Accuracy Championships will take place in Yilan, Chinese Taipei from 12th to 18th June 2012. The test event will run from 1st to 3rd July 2011. Paragliding Accuracy has been expanding fast, especially in Asia, over recent years. FAI-sanctioned Category 2 events have been held in China, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand just over the past year. Organised by the Yilan Paragliding Club, the championships will be held at Wai-Oa, a coastal site near Jiaosi, on the north east side of the island. The target landing and headquarters will be conveniently located on the beach!
The organising team, led by Dr Elsa Mai and Fan Tseng-Jeng, CIVL Delegate and Alternate Delegate respectively, is expecting at least 80 competitors from Asian countries, and guest pilots will be welcome. Around 10 Asian countries now have pilots with WPRS rankings, and Indonesia is currently ranked 5th nation worldwide. More information will be published later. The 2011 CIVL Plenary heard that this bid was in preparation, and the Championships were eventually awarded by the CIVL Bureau under Internal Regulation 3.6.4.
