Drone Racing World Cup

A new event FAI Drone Racing format has been implemented in 2019 in order to be better attractive for media. The format is based on the World Cup with two Series of events (Masters and Challenger), completed by the World Drone Racing Championship (WDRC) Grand Final at the end of the year.

Due to the Covid situation, there had been no Masters Series and WDRC Grand Final organized in 2021.

World Cup contests are considered as FAI second category events based on individual participation (no national team representing a NAC). Any person holding a valid FAI Sporting Licence or FAI Drone Permission can be eligible for the World Cup ranking.

CHALLENGER WORLD CUP SERIES

Two Challenger World Cup contests may be organized every year for any country. For a country which extends over more than three time zones, one Challenger World Cup contest may be organized within each time zone of the country with a maximum of four events for the country.

After cancellation or postponement to 2022 of different events due to Covid restrictions, three Challenger World Cup contests had been held in 2021.

Two of those events may not been retained for the World Cup considering there was only competitors from one country: F9U World Cup Italy (Magreta - 4 & 5 September) and FAI Hadong Drone Race World Cup (Korea - 13 & 14 November).

In that situation, there had been no World Cup ranking considered for 2021.

The additional Non World Cup Open International contest initially registered for Spain had been finally cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

The Hong Kong Drone Race World Cup held in Hong Kong on 11 and 12 December had been on request of the organizer prior to the event converted as Non World Cup and renamed FAI Hong Kong Open Drone Racing Championship.
